Mixing Naughty & Nice

It's that time of year again! Time to have your fun, but still be able to convince Santa you've been good all year. The naughty but nice rule is especially applicable in the fashion world. The key to making it all work is balance. Take a peek:

We all know that Fall/Winter is perfect weather for leggings. But put a little spin on your plain jane black cotton leggings by opting for what the fashion world likes to call, "liquid leggings". These babies are black leather (a la Catwoman style) and literally look painted on. It's safe to say liquid leggings are not for the faint of heart.

Celebrities in black leggings

Rihanna, Ashley Olsen, and Victoria Beckham all pair their liquid leggings with black on top for a pretty, intense look. My favorite way to rock these is to pair them with an oversized sweater, cardigan, or baggy crewneck. It counteracts the leggings perfectly without looking grandpa-like or frumpy.

Pictured above are the Maya and Uri sweaters, both by B. B. Dakota. These would soften the overall look, but still sticking with one of this season's biggest trends of tribal patterns and prints.

And now for the perfect shoes to complete the outfit! The great thing about leggings is that it leaves so many options for shoes. For example, you can go edgy with black combat boots, or go for a cute equestrian look with brown leather riding boots. Studded flats also add a spike of sass. Or my personal favorite: mid-rise Converse sneakers. It looks so unexpected.

There you have it! The three basic parts to a cool, casual, edgy, and comfortable fall ensemble. Be daring and switch it up day to day. I promise you'll feel like a Kardashian, only with less money and more talent.

Happy Styling!

Best Fall Plus Size Sweaters

The best thing about Fall to me is sweaters! Sweaters don’t just have to be for warmth; they can also be very fashionable. I did a little online shopping and I found a few stores like Lane Bryant, Avenue and Old Navy, that had a wide selection of options in styles, colors and prices. Below are some selections that I think will work for any body type and aren’t too trendy so these could last you awhile.

Long Sweater

These can be worn as an outerwear piece or in the dead of winter, as a layering piece. Since this sweater is black, adding a pop of color underneath would be great. If you want to dress it up, I would suggest wearing a sequined top underneath the sweater. I would pair this sweater with a slim bottom such as leggings or a long pencil skirt.

Trendy sweater

Colorblocking is a huge trend we have seen over the past few seasons and it'd look great for fall and winter too. Colorblocking sweaters can add just the right amount of color and trendiness without being over the top. If sequins, stripes, and layering aren’t for you, colorblocking may have the same affect on your overall look.

Animal print has became a neutral classic. With this sweater, you don’t have to sacrifice style for warmth. I would so love this sweater with dark denim or black slacks.

Figure Flattering Sweaters

This is a really cute long sweater; there are exposed seams which add a funky look. What makes the sweater so flattering is on the back, there is a middle exposed seam and a seam on both sides of the sweater which acts as a princess seaming and makes the sweater figure flattering. This sweater is going on my wishlist of something I want to buy this fall!

Turtlenecks don’t always work for plus size women but the look can be achieved with a cowl neck sweater. This particular cowl neck is flattering because it is longer than traditional ones. Why is this important? The longer neck opens up the face more and is more flattering and you also won't feel like you are suffocating.

Open Front Cardigan

Open front cardigans are flattering because they create two lines down the torso which is slimming. The sweaters are also easy to wear so if you get hot easily you won’t have to bother with buttons or pulling the sweater over your head. This is another sweater that would look great with a slimmer bottom such as leggings or skinny jeans and paired with tall boots.

Tights: One of Fall's Best Transition Pieces

Fall can be a confusing season. The weather can fluctuate between warm and cold, sometimes within the same day, and it can be a challenge coordinating your outfits with these weather changes. My favorite solution to this dilemma is wearing tights. I'll have to admit that every time fall comes around, I become obsessed with them. The reason why I love them so much is that they shield you from some of the chilly weather without being too stuffy. They are also a great way to transform your summer clothes into fall appropriate outfits. Here are some of the ways to style tights:

1. Tights with shorts.

I always have shorts left over from summer and tights are a great way to make them work for Fall. This is such a versatile look that you can really play around with.

2. Tights with a dress.

A pair of tights under a summer dress works perfectly for Fall. It also works with dressy outfits as well.

3. Lacy tights.

Lacy tights take an outfit to another level. This is similar to how I would style mine. I think the high-waisted skirt keeps the look feminine and classy.

4. Colored tights.

If you're feeling bold, a pair of brightly colored tights can make a huge statement. I love pairing them with contrasting colors to really make them pop. However, if you want to tone it down, you can pair them with neutrals or variations of the shade itself.

These are only some of the ways you can style tights; the possibilities are infinite. They are very versatile pieces that work from year to year. I will definitely be stocking up on them this Fall, no pun intended.

Hot Fall Colors

When getting into Fall, there are some important things that come to mind... halloween, beautiful weather, fall activities and last, but certainly not least is FASHION WEEK! This year after the highly anticipated and amazing fashion weeks all over the world, there are a few colors that should definitely become a staple in everyone's wardrobe for the upcoming season changes. While there were so many trends and styles that could be discussed, I am going to focus on three important colors that if you don't have already, they should be put on your "must have" list when hitting the stores or shopping online!

Deep Red Wine/Deep Berry is definitely going to be a color that is all around this season and going into future seasons. To start the chilly weather off right, zone into things such as sweaters, jackets, pants, hats, and shoes when trying to bring this color into your wardrobe. Along with the deep colors of wine and berries, try to pair it with leather or fur for a fun and sexy look.

These deep burgundy type colors can even be brought to life through your lipstick and nail colors. This is a fun way to change up your style and also enhance an outfit through simple touches.

Greens are going to be a big trend as well. For the most part, it is going to be between Forest Greens and the Olive Greens. Usually muted green is hard to relate to glamour and style but designers went there this year to combine this color with hot new trends and stylish fashion. Pairing this with velvet, leather, or furs is definitely the way to go with this intense color. But don't worry, bright green is still going to stick around so don't put those summer greens away!

"Dark Olympian Blue" is the third go-to color for the seasons! When doing these fun blue colors, try and pair them with velvet or the trend of peplum tops! Peplum is the way to go. Whether it be shirts, blouses, pants, skirts, dresses, or jackets, peplum is the hot trend! So spice it up going into these next couple seasons!!

Peek-a-Boo Cuts for Fall

Fall is slowly creeping in, and with the change of seasons comes a change in temperature. The autumn and winter seasons are often associated with the chilly weather that they bring with them, and this cold weather rush ushers in a change in our everyday wardrobes. I often find that I am covered and bundled up from head to toe during the last half of the year, and I am constantly searching for a way to integrate a fresh, lighter feel to my fall looks. This is why I am currently in love with the peek-a-boo shirt trend -- it is the perfect mix of coverage I want in the cooler weather with a hint of skin to bring a bit of life to my layering!

A cutout sweater is so perfect for Fall! When the temperatures are still semi-decent, wearing a cutout sweater can provide the perfect mix of warmth and trend.  If you get too cold, throw on a cute cable-knit scarf -- and I would definitely wear leggings because our weather is already too chilly for shorts!

This peek-a-boo back shirt is a great piece to wear under a peacoat! When you take the coat off once you're in a cozy environment, the open back is a fantastic detail. By placing the cutout in the back, it makes it easy to cover up the exposed skin if you get too chilly.

If short sleeves are out of the question, try a long-sleeved open back option!

Even a tiny peek-a-boo, like in the top below, adds a bit of spice to cold winter wardrobes everywhere. This is a tasteful little sliver of skin that would be appropriate for many occasions, plus you could wear layer over the top without losing the cutout. The ultra-high neckline offsets the peek-a-boo plunge, which gives the shirt a classy touch.

As the brisk weather rolls in this year, I encourage you to try the cutout/peek-a-boo trend! It's a great way to add some fun to your cold weather layers!
