Tights: One of Fall's Best Transition Pieces

Fall can be a confusing season. The weather can fluctuate between warm and cold, sometimes within the same day, and it can be a challenge coordinating your outfits with these weather changes. My favorite solution to this dilemma is wearing tights. I'll have to admit that every time fall comes around, I become obsessed with them. The reason why I love them so much is that they shield you from some of the chilly weather without being too stuffy. They are also a great way to transform your summer clothes into fall appropriate outfits. Here are some of the ways to style tights:

1. Tights with shorts.

I always have shorts left over from summer and tights are a great way to make them work for Fall. This is such a versatile look that you can really play around with.

2. Tights with a dress.

A pair of tights under a summer dress works perfectly for Fall. It also works with dressy outfits as well.

3. Lacy tights.

Lacy tights take an outfit to another level. This is similar to how I would style mine. I think the high-waisted skirt keeps the look feminine and classy.

4. Colored tights.

If you're feeling bold, a pair of brightly colored tights can make a huge statement. I love pairing them with contrasting colors to really make them pop. However, if you want to tone it down, you can pair them with neutrals or variations of the shade itself.

These are only some of the ways you can style tights; the possibilities are infinite. They are very versatile pieces that work from year to year. I will definitely be stocking up on them this Fall, no pun intended.

Clothing Yourself in Memories

With college graduation looming in one week I am faced yet again with separating from a large group of people that mean a lot to me. I did this about a year ago when I left my exchange school in the Netherlands. People coming and going from your life is just a natural part of it, few of us stay in one place forever anymore. On the note of the prospect of missing a great deal of people in the near future I think I should bring up a small habit I have formed, clothing myself in the clothes of people I love.

This idea is a bit like a clothing swap, but a bit more personal. You still swap clothes, eliminate spending money, revamp your wardrobe a bit (and clean it out), but this time you will have warm memories woven into every thread of your clothes.

Some of my best forms of this are an array of oversized sweaters I own. The first one is a purple men’s V-neck sweater from H&M. The former owner of this is my best friend who happens to live nine time zones away. So when I miss her way too much, I can just pull this sweater on and it is [almost] as good as a hug from her. Another one is a sweater vest that used to be my grandpas. Apart from it being really cute I feel closer to him when I wear it. As you can tell, this habit is not restricted to friends. If you are moving away from home you might see if your Mom has any vintage things to give you -- then you can look adorable and feel close to your Mom all at once.

So next time your best friend comes over and once again asks to borrow a certain jacket, or a certain top, think about just maybe letting them hold on to it. How often do you really wear it? Why not send a memory of yourself off with them. When I stop and think about it, I clothe myself in memories almost every day. All my favorite things have great days and nights attached to them -- but every so often it is nice to put on my uncle’s own flannel and think about him. Or put on my best friend’s sweater and remember continually borrowing it during Christmas at her house.

As I said at the beginning, graduation is rushing upon me and my friends faster than we can even begin to comprehend (especially between all these finals), but as it gets closer, clothes have begun to creep out of my closet and into theirs, and shirts and sweaters have begun to land in mine. When it finally comes down to packing everything up, those pieces of cloth will make everything a bit more sane.

Add a Little Mint to Spring

While bright colors are making the way for Spring and Summer, pastels are definitely making a wave for the upcoming seasons. Not a fan of the bright colors?  A more subtle color to pop out is definitely mint. Whether it be in clothes, handbags, shoes, even down to your finger nails, mint can be the hot color for almost everyone this Spring/Summer.

For a simple day to night dress, mint can be a great color to wear! It is perfect for day because it is light and carefree but can also be dressed up and perfect for nighttime events. This dress is definitely affordable and can easily be made unique with different accessory ideas. If you are not into the whole color blocking concept, keeping it simple with a solid color dress is the way to go.

For a different look (keeping it all in the mint or green family), a long skirt and cute top are a fun way to spice up your clothing. An outfit like this is perfect for daytime activities or parties. It is a fun way to be different with the mint colors.

Not into making the whole outfit about mint? Accessories are a fun way to bust out this color without being overboard. Whether it be nail polish, jewelry, sunglasses, or even just your lip balm mint can still make a way into your life for this Spring/Summer. Here are some cute ideas and ways to bring mint into your life!

Mint can even be great for the office or at work. With a classy pencil skirt, it can definitely be brought into the workplace with you. This skirt is great for going from work to out because it can it can easily be transformed with what skirt you are wearing with it. A quick change from a classic blouse to a fun top like below can be the difference from work to out with friends.

Some different shoe options are pretty simple to find online or in the stores. This color is pretty prominent for Spring/Summer so whether or not you're looking for cheap or expensive shoes, do not fear. There are plenty of options!

Feline Fashion

I admit, I'm a cat person.  It's not that I don't love dogs too, but my family has always had cats so they're what I'm used to.  I love to incorporate my love of cats into my outfits, but there's a fine line between being a stylish cat lover and a crazy cat lady.  I think the pieces below will keep me in the stylish cat lover category...unless I try to combine several of these pieces together and become that crazy cat lady that I'm slightly fearful of becoming.

This American Apparel dress is cute but the print is a little much for me.

I like this dress because it's not obvious from far away that it has cat print.  It's just a cute surprise when you look closer!

There's something irresistible about this shirt from ModCloth.  The  cat face itself is adorable but the bow increases its cuteness quotient!

I ordered this scarf from Etsy back in November.  I had wanted a cat print scarf for awhile but I finally stumbled across this one and loved it.  It's made of chiffon so it is light enough to wear year round.  There are other color combinations available for the same price.

My most favorite cat print is the one Miu Miu used in their Spring '10 collection. I wish I could buy everything in it!

Celebrity Fashion Lines

It seems as though every famous celebrity has a clothing line today.  Although some of these lines are great and fashionable, others are lack luster.  Most of these celebrities with lines don't even have the greatest taste in fashion.  It just seems like fashion is turning into another area in which these celebrities can make their money off of their fans.  Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy most of the lines they come out with. However, I don't like the high price tags that come along with it for some.

Here are some lines I enjoy, but wish were lower priced:

Victoria Beckham dVb clothing line

Although many don't necessarily like the Kardashians, I think they are great impacters on girls and fashionistas today.  They have an amazing sense of style and aren't afraid to wear things that people may question.  In addition to their Bebe line, it is rumored that they are producing a line for Sears.  As for Lindsay Lohan's line.. I know she is not exactly the poster child for stability or of role model status right now, but her style when she was at her prime was amazing.  She really wears whatever she feels is right for herself and rocks it her own way.  Lastly, Victoria Beckham didn't get her nickname "Posh" for nothing. This woman has incredible taste and is a true fashionista.

While there are great celebrity lines, there are also celebrity fragrances too.  We all know about Britney Spears' line, but their are other celebrities who are starting to create their own too.  For example, Lady GaGa, Khole Kardashian-Odom and husband Lamar Odom, Katy Perry, and Jersey Shores' Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola. I know most of you may be thinking.. Sammi "Sweetheart" really?? But let's face it, MTV has made people like Sammi famous for no reason, so why not get more money off of making perfume or clothing.

Celebrity Fashion lines can be fun to look at and purchase if reasonable, but do they have to dominate the market and gain more profits? If their lines were reasonably priced, I think it would make more people willing to buy and accepted into the market.
