Feline Fashion

I admit, I'm a cat person.  It's not that I don't love dogs too, but my family has always had cats so they're what I'm used to.  I love to incorporate my love of cats into my outfits, but there's a fine line between being a stylish cat lover and a crazy cat lady.  I think the pieces below will keep me in the stylish cat lover category...unless I try to combine several of these pieces together and become that crazy cat lady that I'm slightly fearful of becoming.

This American Apparel dress is cute but the print is a little much for me.

I like this dress because it's not obvious from far away that it has cat print.  It's just a cute surprise when you look closer!

There's something irresistible about this shirt from ModCloth.  The  cat face itself is adorable but the bow increases its cuteness quotient!

I ordered this scarf from Etsy back in November.  I had wanted a cat print scarf for awhile but I finally stumbled across this one and loved it.  It's made of chiffon so it is light enough to wear year round.  There are other color combinations available for the same price.

My most favorite cat print is the one Miu Miu used in their Spring '10 collection. I wish I could buy everything in it!

Celebrity Fashion Lines

It seems as though every famous celebrity has a clothing line today.  Although some of these lines are great and fashionable, others are lack luster.  Most of these celebrities with lines don't even have the greatest taste in fashion.  It just seems like fashion is turning into another area in which these celebrities can make their money off of their fans.  Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy most of the lines they come out with. However, I don't like the high price tags that come along with it for some.

Here are some lines I enjoy, but wish were lower priced:

Although many don't necessarily like the Kardashians, I think they are great impacters on girls and fashionistas today.  They have an amazing sense of style and aren't afraid to wear things that people may question.  In addition to their Bebe line, it is rumored that they are producing a line for Sears.  As for Lindsay Lohan's line.. I know she is not exactly the poster child for stability or of role model status right now, but her style when she was at her prime was amazing.  She really wears whatever she feels is right for herself and rocks it her own way.  Lastly, Victoria Beckham didn't get her nickname "Posh" for nothing. This woman has incredible taste and is a true fashionista.

While there are great celebrity lines, there are also celebrity fragrances too.  We all know about Britney Spears' line, but their are other celebrities who are starting to create their own too.  For example, Lady GaGa, Khole Kardashian-Odom and husband Lamar Odom, Katy Perry, and Jersey Shores' Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola. I know most of you may be thinking.. Sammi "Sweetheart" really?? But let's face it, MTV has made people like Sammi famous for no reason, so why not get more money off of making perfume or clothing.

Celebrity Fashion lines can be fun to look at and purchase if reasonable, but do they have to dominate the market and gain more profits? If their lines were reasonably priced, I think it would make more people willing to buy and accepted into the market.

The Dreaded Fashion Addiction

The world of fashion is exactly that: a world in its own right. It has a history, it has movers and shakers, and it has milestones that are worth noting. And yes, there is also the occasional tragedy. From the consumer’s end, the tragedy often comes as maxed credit cards, empty savings accounts, and a closet full of clothes which one might never even wear. After all, shopping can become addicting – and being a shopaholic is just as expensive as any other addiction.

Shopping bags

Have you ever had shopper’s remorse? It’s the one thing every fashion-minded girl wants to avoid. And if you love fashion, you have probably come up with several ways to make sure you never buy something which just might bring you regret the moment you get home. Rules like “never buy on impulse” or “come back for it the next day, just to be sure” probably replay over and over in your mind as you try on a gorgeous jacket that makes your look but breaks the bank. But for shopaholics, this impulse to buy is uncontrollable.

How serious is this addiction? Many people scoff at shopaholics, unaware that even this seemingly harmless addiction causes a lot of misery for families all around the world. A shopaholic may dip into the entire family’s savings just to get her shopping fix. Many husbands have left their wives simply because their addiction has gotten out of hand.

An addiction to shopping, destroying families? Yes, it happens. After all, being a shopaholic puts quite a strain on the wallet. Many fashion-minded women assume that they are shopaholics simply because they love shopping, but this is not an accurate assumption. Any addiction is defined as a compulsion to do something, resulting in an impairment in functioning. You may love shopping and seem to spend all your money on clothes, but as long as you manage to pay the bills and never get in trouble, then you don’t qualify as a shopaholic.

However, if you find yourself stealing your dad’s credit card just so you can purchase that fur coat you saw at Lanvin, consider yourself in trouble. Never assume that it is a problem you have to handle on your own. Fashion has its tragedies, but it is also full of success stories. Besides, there are other ways to revamp your wardrobe without breaking the bank. You can start by looking for discounted items and crazy-cheap finds here at Smashion, yes?

Sell Used Clothing

A lot of people sell used clothing because, aside from making space for new clothes, it is a great way of sharing many of your fashion finds which you no longer wear, with other people who are looking for one-of-a-kind additions to their wardrobe. It is also an eco-friendly way of earning an extra buck.

To sell used clothing online, here are a few things you should remember:

There is always something in your closet that you can sell. When you want to sell used clothing, go through your entire closet and be honest – don’t hold on to items which you know you won’t be wearing. That includes tops you haven’t worn in months, pants that no longer fit, and trendy pieces that you can’t see yourself wearing anymore.

Pick the right things to sell.  Not all used clothing items are good for re-sale. Lightly worn or new-with-tag items, designer labels, hot fashion brands, and unique or beautiful pieces are more likely to attract an audience.  So when you go through your closet, figure out which items are good for resale, and which items are better for donation.

Presentation is everything. To sell used clothing successfully, make sure you offer them in an appealing manner. If you want to sell used clothing online, take good pictures and place your clothes in good lighting.

Selling takes time. When you want to sell used clothing, do not be disappointed if the sales seem a little slow. It may take time before a buyer spots your items.

Segregate your clothes. Do you have designer items? Vintage clothes? Or plain ones that you can sell for a few bucks? Group them together and make sure you find the right avenues for these items. For designer items, if you still have the receipts as proof of authenticity, then buyers will trust you more.

Work out a system. Regardless of whether you will sell used clothing online or offline, remember that things can get confusing if you don’t have a plan. Prepare the receipts, print out a list of items categorized accordingly and with their corresponding prices, and tally up your sales to keep tabs on everything.

Unusual Fashion Attraction: French Connection and Sears

Fashion has had some strange collaborations in the past, but I honestly never saw this coming: Sears and French Connection joining forces! Well, Target and H&M have been working with fashion power houses like Rodarte, Anna Sui, and Jimmy Choo for awhile now, so it's kinda cool to see Sears joining in on the fun. Sears will be launching a new clothing line called UK Style by French Connection next Spring 2011, which will featured clothing for women, men, and children. It's the latest marketing effort in Sears' attempt to recapture the attention of the younger fashion market and I feel that it is a good one. I grew up with a Sears within a 10 minute driving radius of my house, but I never wanted shop there for their clothing. To me, nothing fit my body right, so after one or two attempts, I just stopped trying. Just to get a peep at this collection though, I know I'll be popping into a Sears next Spring.
