Aaliyah Forever and Ever My Icon

It's fascinating to reminisce about your childhood and reflect on the music you loved from the 90s era. Aaliyah was the first female artist who introduced me to the world of music. Surprisingly, I was a tomboy as a young girl, so I was intrigued by her belly shirts and the silver boxers she wore under her baggy pants while she danced like a trained professional in her "Are You That Somebody" video. I kept a collection of her albums, because her music was so powerful. It touched me, even as a young girl living in a world lacking maturity and real life experiences. I remember when I first heard of her death, I was in my uncle's living room and the entertainment news channel was on the television. My daddy just knew how much I loved her, and he immediately looked at me and said, "It's gonna be okay, baby." Her spirit was so beautiful and angelic, and I could feel her presence through every incredible music video and every movement of her image glaring from the big screen. I recently sat and watched all of her music videos, and I was so infatuated by her fashion. Her motorcycle tomboy chic look in her "More Than A Woman" video gave me the feeling that I could conquer the world. Her "Rock the Boat" video was indescribably graceful, and the Bohemian styled skirt she wore gave me hope that one day I would work hard enough to deserve a vacation on a tropical island. Aaliyah told me as a kid, that if I didn't succeed at first, then I could get up and "Try Again." From childhood, I've failed and tried again with persistence and tears and thick skin. My dreams will be a reality one day, and I know that my #1 fashion and music idol will grin down on me from the Heavens and say, "I told you so." I love Aaliyah Forever! Truly an Angel!

Aaliyah
How extraordinary is her gold top and gold chain accessories with those edgy black leather pants? Perfection! Oh yes her hair is flowing and gorgeous. Plus those gold bangles and earrings must be noted.

Aaliyah
Honey, you've never seen anyone rock Tommy quite like this! She was such an original, her fashion was insane. She made tomboys look glamorous.

Aaliyah
Only Aaliyah could match a bandana with her lip color and her hair tips.

Aaliyah
Speechless. I don't know if it's her flawless bronze skin or if its the most beautifully designed makeup masterpiece I've ever seen in celebrity history.

Aaliyah
I never imagined a snake being the sexiest fashion accessory until Aaliyah became my icon.

I absolutely loved Aaliyah's dark side. Her smokey eye, pure red lips, black nails, and jet black hair in this image are to die for. This is how edgy is mixed with elegance to master one look.

Bohemian chic! Love it. Love her. Isn't the Bahamas scenery incredible?

This was literally the most gorgeous ponytail hairstyle ever. Her eye shadow is fascinating!

Aaliyah was so motorcycle chic...literally!

I love you, Aaliyah. You're in my heart forever. Rest in Peace. Iconic angel.

I'm Beyonce Inspired! You Be Inspired Too!

If you've ever taken a peek at my Smashion bio, you'd notice that I believe in the boldness of blonde hair. Sounds cray cray right? My favorite hair colors are blonde and pure black! Like they drive me wonderfully insane, especially when they're mixed. I recently turned 20 years old and I wanted to be bold and go blonde! Wait a minute ladies, I didn't bleach my entire head (although I honestly wish I wasn't afraid to just go completely blonde), but I did ask my hairstylist to add a touch of blonde. Blonde is just that edgy hair color that gives you a sexy confidence about yourself. Well, at least for us divas who weren't blessed with naturally blonde hair.

Okay girls, I'm guilty of having the Beyonce fever, and obsessing over her beautiful blonde hair. Seriously, if I'm not mesmerized by her gorgeousness and her indescribable high notes, then my eyes are glazing at those flawless blonde curls. Yep, the Queen Bey has inspired me to do what I feel, so at this very moment, I heart the blondes! The moral to this article is to be inspired and to be bold. Even if you're a brunette, who wants to go jet black, just go for it. Do what you feel and forget about the outside world. Focus on your inner world, because at the end of the day, you'll be proud that you made a change according to how you felt in that very moment. Life is too short to play it safe, if your heart's desire is to be free! That's one of the reasons why I love fashion and beauty, because it gives us girls the power to express our uniqueness and individualism. Perhaps, on a Wednesday evening you suddenly decide to dye the tips of your hair Tiffany's blue, then who's gonna stop you? Be inspired! Be you! GIRL POWER!

Beyonce
Oh goodness...doesn't Beyonce amaze you?

The Colors of Lips and Nails: Matchy Matchy? Hmmm...

Soooo, lately I've discovered how crazy I am about matching my lip colors with my nail colors. Even in the entertainment industry, I've noticed many of the reality t.v. celebs matching their lip colors and their nail colors. Sometimes, I'm fashionably frustrated because I get literally obsessed with changing my nail color on a weekly basis, and sometimes my lip mood changes. Hmmm...let's say it's a gorgeous sunny day in California, in the morning I may feel the desire to wear a pretty pink lip, but it drives me insane if my nail color happens to be she-devil red. Ladies, is it me, or does anyone else have these girly issues that seem to cause beauty conflict?!

Well, here's a possible solution to the problem: For a girl like me who changes her nail color by mood, I'd suggest planning at least one week in advance, to wear the same shade of lipstick as your nail color, and picking out looks that correlate awesomely with your lips and nails, for that week. When that color change mood kicks in, then the cycle starts all over again, and you may have to ignore the urge to wear a lipstick color that doesn't match your nail color for that week. Oh trust me, I feel your pain, diva! But hey, who ever said looking fabulous was easy? Beauty alert: All lip colors can be worn with black, white, and neutral-colored nails. Wondering about some amazing lipsticks and glosses?? I would definitely recommend all Revlon lipsticks and Colorburst lip glosses, M.A.C. lipsticks will have you looking like a supermodel, and Milani has an outstanding lip gloss line. But of course, all of us fashionistas have our own personal preferences when it comes to cosmetics! Smooches!

My New York City Inspiration

It was only a week ago when I visited the home of Ms. Carrie Bradshaw. Of course darling, New York is the only city that gives me chills when I step off of the airplane. An exhilarating feeling of infatuation oozed out of my pores, as I walked the streets of Manhattan in a leopard print scarf, a golden silk Arden B. blouse, worn under a Forever 21 pure black jacket, a leopard print skirt, and comfy chestnut Uggs paired with black stockings. After a night of gazing at the Empire State Building, I used the remaining days of my glamorous vacation to observe the incredible street style of the New Yorkers. I absolutely loved how many of the people walked with a sense of professionalism. I literally had to make a quick stop into a boutique to sit and take notes on my observations. Black was the color theme color of the New York City style. People looked fabulous in all black everything, giving a notion that they meant business. There was a conservative air surrounding their styles. Black pumps, black business suits, black blazers, black skinny jeans, black combat boots. I saw a lot of Burberry quilted jackets in a variety of colors and many Burberry signature scarves. I loved seeing women wearing fur vests and fur coats and camel colored blouses. There were tons of Chanel and Michael Kors handbags. There was just a vibe about New York City that motivated me to keep dreaming big. I wanted to be one of the business women walking in nude pumps multitasking on an important phone call, while drinking a cup of Starbucks coffee. At Times Square, I stood on the red steps where Jay Z and Alicia Keys shot the "Empire State of Mind" video, and I listened to the song on my i-Phone in that very moment. Alicia was right, those big lights did inspire me. The night's skyline seemed like a surreal piece of artistry. I was fascinated by every building that towered over my petite frame. The city was so full of culture, history, and an indescribable beauty. There is truly just no place on planet Earth quite like it. New York City is the Paris of America. Simply inspired!
