Most Avant Garde Themed Editorial Of 2011

French Magazine, M le Monde

I thought it would be fun to start the year by looking back at one of the craziest editorials shot in 2011. The prize goes to the December issue of French Magazine, M le Monde. The spread’s concept is centered around Malgosia Bela, a Polish model that takes on the role of a “clowness” / rock music goddess on a twisted holiday. The spread was styled by Aleksandra Woroniecka and photographed by Christian Anwander. The wardrobe selections consisted of various options from Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, Stella McCartney, and many others. This looks pretty amazing, no?

Here are some of my favorite shots. To see the entire spread, visit the Buro 24/7 blog.

What were your favorite trends of 2011?

Whoa, That's Bright!

One of the biggest trends on the fall runway is fur, but not just any regular ol’ fur.  Shockingly bright, bold, psychedelic fur.  Like something you would wear to a tea party in Wonderland.  Browns and grays are replaced by every other color in the rainbow, from powder blue, deep ruby, teal, to bubblegum pink.

Though prices for a piece of designer clothing are very steep, you don’t have to pour out your life savings to achieve this certain trend.  If you already have a faux fur coat, scarf, etc, there is a very easy way to dye it into a bright, on-trend hue using spray paint.

1) Put on latex gloves to protect your hands.

2) Spray small sections of the clothing item at a time.  Hold the can around 12 inches away from the fur to avoid paint clumping.

3) Brush the sectioned fur with a fine bristled brush right after spraying to evenly distribute the color.

4) Let air-dry for a day, and ta-da!  You are set and ready for the upcoming fall and winter season.  It is not a look you would see walking down the street, but it is definitely fun for a night out on the town!

Going Green!

Going Green is said to be an up and coming trend of 2011.  You may think that eco-friendly clothes means they won't be cute.  However, one line was debuted at New York Fashion Week and looks to be a sure hit for 2011. This line is called Auralis.  Auralis is named after the designer, a Puerto Rican woman who had a great vision and talent of designing. "Auralís blossomed out of the need to create eco-conscious and style-conscious pieces. It has been a labor of love and passion since the beginning. With each new collection, Auralís designs for a better future, one garment at a time" (directly from their site).  These eco-friendly pieces consist of hemp, bamboo, organic cotton, and are even blended together to create the jeans of this collection. Auralis carries a collection for both men and women.

Here are some pictures of the collection:

Spots and Dots for Summer

Prints make life – or at least our clothes – more colorful. Yes, sometimes, block colors just can’t seem to do it. After all, what fashion aficionado can live without prints? The world of fashion has capitalized on prints for trends season after season. And this summer, it’s time to go for spots and dots.

Spotted fabric isn’t the easiest thing to wear. It may emphasize the things you want to minimize or provide an unflattering figure. Yes, it does require a bit of bravado for you to pull of spots, but once you figure out how to wear this trend, you’ve also learned to figure out how it is to both be fashionable and fun.

This trend has been spotted on the runway this year– pun not intended. :) Check out how Marc Jacobs cheers up the catwalk with polka dots:

Marni prefers to layer his prints, with lines and stripes thrown into the mix for a saturated look. This is one way to wear this trend while popping out from the background:

Diane von Furstenberg gives polka dots a feminine appeal by keeping the patterned fabric flowy. If you want to savor the girl appeal of polka dots while staying fashionably mature, draw inspiration from Diane von Furstenberg’s collection.

Azzarro uses dots to make a more textured design, employing spots as a means to an end. Needless to say, it's a great way of breathing even more life into polka dots and giving them a little more character.

Lanvin keeps things short and simple, keeping things on the dot. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry. If you have to wear a bold statement such as spring's spots, it's always best to make the statement brief.

Stella McCartney believes that even polka dots are not only fun; they’re also sexy. Place polka dots on anything sheer and it becomes an instant sexy statement.

David Koma likes using texture to put his spots in the spotlight. Black on black dots look muted yet particularly noticeable. If you prefer to keep things serious, this is one way to wear polka dots and still be taken seriously.

There are so many ways to wear polka dots. If you don’t feel bold enough to wear an entire dress with this pattern, you can always wear accessories with dots instead. A bag with fun spots or a cap with dots on them should keep you on the fashion radar this summer!
