When one thinks "nautical" there are certain colors and patterns that come to mind. However one doesn't need to sport these exact staples to have a sailing-inspired look. Here's one way to do nautical in a fun way. To start at the feet and work our way up, anything flat works. Heels really can change the feel of the look (because heels aren't usually worn on the seven seas). Depending on how far, though, you want to deviate from the typical nautical look, heels can help. White shorts are next. They provide the cleanness that is so central in nautical style. In this outfit, the top provides a fun twist. Stripes are a very nautical pattern. However wearing a top with varying stripes, polka dots, and yellow adds a different flair to the standard pattern. Lastly, try a non-nautical hat, like a bowler or fedora. It adds even more interest. Then, throw on you shades, and you're ready for the boardwalk, beach, or boat!
