Trend Alert: DIY Crochet

Do-it-yourself projects have moved out from remodeling a kitchen and into our closets. More and more, the day-to-day fashionistas are creating their own one-of-a-kind pieces based on trends on a budget. Take a plain white shirt for example, and the possibilities are endless: you could tie-dye it, add fringe, or even screen–print it, to name a few options.

So with the new array of crotched items growing hot for Spring 2012, why spend money at a department store when some needle, yarn, and good 'ol willpower will serve you just as well? Take that money and go treat yourself to a manicure, pedicure, and some martinis instead. You'll also get the satisfaction of creating your own unique, one-of-a-kind, self-designed, custom-made piece to show off.

Crocheting is easy and just takes some time and practice. Here are some ideas for inspiration and a video to help you get started:

The Rodarte booties are so amazing! I'm totally getting myself an early bday prezzie.

I understand crocheting sweaters, but I've also been seeing crocheted bikinis. I don't understand those...anyone want to explain it to me?
