Back when I was a young girl growing up in Texas, I was the epitome of a tomboy. A ball was permanently attached to my hands at all times and I would rather get my knees scraped while rollerblading instead of twirling around in a ballet skirt. I danced in my jeans and overalls and rotated through countless tee shirts of a patriotic color scheme: white, red, and blue.
Years have passed, and my style has developed into a more bohemian and feminine aesthetic (Less Mary Kate Olsen in It Takes Two and more Mary Kate Olsen circa 2011).
But, as of late, I’ve harkened back to those tomboyish days of mine and been channeling looks that I have dubbed “Femboy chic.” To translate, femboy chic incorporates menswear or menswear-inspired looks with a feminine twist, such as softer patterns (for example: florals) or chic statement accessories or shoes. Sartorial choices that aren’t ubiquitous and a little off-beat are what I find most inspiring and what I hope to embrace stylistically this spring!
