When doing my much needed overhaul on my wardrobe for the New Year, I found myself needing quick inspiration on what to buy and wear. Normally, I’d tear through my fashion magazines but I’m in Chicago for school and unfortunately, my magazines are an hour or so away at home. So I turned to an unlikely source for inspiration: music. Now I’m a big fan of rock n’ roll; it’s loud, in your face, and bold, just like your outfits should be! I’m an even bigger fan of Aerosmith, so naturally my musician of choice for inspiration was none other than Steven Tyler. It may seem a bit odd to look to a rock star when trying to decide what pieces to wear, but this man knows what will stand out in front of a large crowd when performing. Trust me; I’ve seen him live three times. If his outfits of choice stand out on stage, similar outfits will stand out wherever you happen to be.

Steven tends to dress over the top with funky scarves, bright tops, chunky jewelry and layering his pieces. By looking for similar pieces, you can quickly make your outfits pop. To get a look like the one he’s wearing in the above picture, pick a fun colored blazer to wear over a shimmery shirt and then throw on a pair of skinny jeans, the scarf, and boots with it and you’re ready to rock! If you want to go all out like Steven, then top it off with a hat.

Regardless of what you decide to do, just remember that you don’t always have to look to fashion magazines for inspiration. Even the artists sitting in your iPod know a thing or two about how to spice up your current look.
