I'm Just a Summer Girl Even in December

I have been blasting "Summer Girl" by Jessica Andrews (recently covered by Leighton Meester in "Country Strong").  You may have heard it.  It goes "I'm just a summer girl.  I wear my flip flops.  When I let my hair down.  That's when the party starts.  Tanks tops and cutoff jeans. etc"  Definitely look it up.  I have been blasting this song because I am missing summer right now.  As much as I love the holiday season, the thought of low temperatures and snow make me long for those hazy days of summer.  My tan, flip flops, shorts, and no need for a jacket.  Because wearing flip flops in 20 degree weather is ridiculous, I have to find other ways to stretch my summer wardrobe into the winter.

A floral dress is a staple of any wardrobe.  One of my favorite things about summer is putting on a spaghetti strapped dress and a pair of flip flops.  As I mentioned before, flip flops would look dumb at this point of the year but I still want to wear the dress.  Darker, richer colors along with vibrant reds, purples, blues look great in any season.

Boots - With higher boots, tights or leggings are not a necessity in order to wear a dress in the winter.  You can go bare legged if you hate tights but only if the boots cover most of your calf.  If you want to wear booties or ankle boots, I would wear tights.  If the dress is patterned, you might want to wear neutral tights or black as to not overwhelm the dress.

Flats/Heels - These are also great shoe options.  Wear with tights or leggings in order to make this dress more winter wearable.  You can go bare legged but I, personally, would be a little chilly.

Shrug/Cardigan/Jacket - Wearing a strapless or thinly strapped dress in the middle of December is not a smart idea.  First off, it's cold and that's all I got.  Pair your dress with a short sleeve sweater or shrug.  They come in a multitude of colors to match whatever color your dress is.  Or opt for a cardigan.  These are so many different colors and styles that you cannot go wrong with a cardigan.  You can also throw on a great jacket in a cool color or pattern.  Jean jackets, winter coats, fitted blazers, there are so many jacket options.

Now that you are suitably attired for the weather, accessorize your dress however you like.  Cute jewelry, fun makeup, adorable purse, whatever you want.  Keep your legs and arms covered but still wear all your favorite summer dresses. As I wait for summer and flip flops, I am glad that no matter what the season I can still wear my favorite dress.
