Supposedly a young Lilly Pulitzer began designing brightly colored designs to hide citrus stains she got while operating a juice stand in the 1950s. Fifty years later, these brightly colored designs are a summer beach staple for the preppy. While the high-end clothes may not have universal appeal, or be easily attained by us average folks, the influence Lilly Pulitzer’s designs have had on fashion is undeniable.
The Museum of Lifestyle & Fashion History in Boynton Beach, FL had a LILLY exhibit that was display from August 3, 2010–May 31, 2011. The exhibit included vintage Lilly Pulitzer pieces such as clothing, home décor, accessories, and more, plus various educational programs about design.
Lilly Pulitzer can also be a great influence if you are looking
to revamp your summer style. You don’t need the brand name to create similar
looks as the designer clothes. The key is color and pattern. Go bold with both
to celebrate the warm weather! Bright yellows, oranges, red, and that classic
hot pink and neon green combination all convey the upbeat attitude and warmth
of the summer. Pick two or more of these colors as a palette, and build your
outfit with clothes and patterns of these bright hues!

Even if you hate Lilly Pulitzer, you can’t hate bright colors
and a celebration of summer! Use the designer as a reminder to enjoy this time
of year through your fashion (before winter is upon us again)!
