For Spring 2010, we will see a wonderful display of vibrant floral prints, adorable plaids, short skirts and masculine jackets. It is all about mixing feminine with edgy, and several designers have presented some amazing examples.
One look from Anna Sui displays a fun, floral print dress of purple and black with a darling bubble hem. Worn over the dress is a shimmering capelet in dark gray, complete with decorative black embroidery. The model also wears a hat which matches the capelet, and resembles that of a toy soldier for a frisky, youthful look.
It would be nearly a crime to speak of mixing prints with no mention of Marc Jacobs. In his Spring 2010 for Marc by Marc Jacobs, we see an adorable, over-sized bubble skirt with a high waist and large side tie. The print consists of small, horizontal stripes, large polka-dots and even larger flowers. Coordinating with the pink and blues of the skirt, this look also features a plaid, button-front shirt with cuffed short sleeves. To complete this unique ensemble, the model wears a large bow headband in shimmering blue taffeta fabric.
The runway is great for inspiration, but what is the girl on a budget to do? Grab the Artistic Sweetheart Dress from Forever 21. The dress features a lovely floral print with a unique “paint splatter” effect, while a sweetheart neckline and waist bow offer a taste of sweet romance. For a bit of an edge, pair it with the Charlene Denim Jacket, also from Forever 21. Sleek black denim with contrast silver buttons will take away a bit of innocence and add some edgy sass.
