The corset appears to be making a comeback, at least with celebrities. More and more it appears corsets are popping up in the world of fashion. The modern remakes of the 16th century undergarment are not worn under clothes, but instead, are the clothes! We have all seen corset dresses. Here is Victoria Beckham in Dolce & Gabbana.
Beautifully structured garments, corset dresses can be very elegant. Especially modern takes on corset dresses, transforming them from large gowns to chicly tailored and structured pieces. However, more and more corsets are being designed without the lower dress half. Celebrities are wearing corsets as a separate, making the corset stand alone as a top. Take Fergie, Rihanna, and Minnie Driver (all wearing pieces designed by The Blondes).
They used their corsets to convey a totally different attitude than that of the ultra traditional world corsets once came from. But can the corset really stand alone or are they do they cross the line of too sexy? What do you think? Trashy or Trendy?
