Fresh Friday: Happy New Year!

Last New Year’s Eve I couldn’t find a dress, so I rocked suspenders and a bow tie, like this (thanks girlsinsuits.tumblr.com!). It was totally dope, but, not for everyone. So this year I had my dress laid on out my bed three months ago. But, if you’re a procrastinator like the me of yesteryear, I have some options for you. Instead of pointing readers to Etsy, ASOS, ModCloth and other online stores like I often do, today I’ve compiled a list of the freshest dresses available at REAL live retail stores where you can buy something today! Happy New Year Fresh Friday-ers!

3 Looks: New Years Eve

As the Holiday season comes to an end, it's as important as ever to finish it fashionably. It's time to send 2011 off, and the only way to do it is like a true glamazon. Here are 3 different looks that are sure to do just that:

Look 1: LBD with a colorful bottom. Try those bright hue tights that you've been holding back on wearing all year. Yellow and royal blue are two of my favorites. The simpler the dress, the better. Go with a nude heel, close-toed is most appropriate for the season. Keep the neck bare and the earrings simple, but play up the jewlery with a fun cocktail ring. Flirty, wavy hair looks best. Remember, the tights are the statement piece for this look!

2. Rachel Cubic Zirconia Stud Earrings, Nordstrom, $12

3. RACHEL Rachel Roy Gold Tone Owl Ring, Macy’s, $48

4. MARC BY MARC JACOBS Classic Q Karlie Crossbody Bag in black, Bloomingdales, $258

5. Cross Over Tulip Dress with Ruched Sleeves, ASOS, $72

6. Opaque Pantyhose in Dent de Lion, American Apparel, $14

Look 2: A chic black boyfriend blazer over a sequined, sparkly dress. Plain studs look fabulous on the ears, especially in a more distressed material or color. I like a high, tight bun with hair slicked back, resting on top of the head. Black pumps or flats (if you're a taller girl) pull the look together. If the coloring works (a gold or silver sequin) go for a fun red lip.

2. Birch allover sequin dress, Trina Turk, $388

3. Semi matte lipstick in heat wave, NARS, $24

4. Michael Kors Gia Puhslock Clutch, Bloomingdales, $450

5. Bolt head studs, Girlprops, $6

6. BDG Leather Pointy Skimmer in black, Urban Outfitters, $34

Look 3: A neutral, low neckline or boat neck dress with a statement necklace (J Crew and Kate Spade come to mind for the necklace). A pale pink, grey, or even beige dress looks best. Anything brighter or bolder makes the outfit too much when it's all but together. Tights are optional but I would opt for nude or sheer black if you're feeling daring. Hair pulled back in a low bun allows the necklace to wow. Black booties are a fun shoe for the look.

Sweetness and Glamorous

When we think of winter, we tend to think of dreary weather, staying indoors and Christmas. It is not summer anymore! We cannot play up our looks with summer dresses, shorts and tank tops. Well, we can, but you don’t want to freeze up while trying to look your best. For the winter, we want to be able to stand out in all this gray, and it seems this winter season, trends point out to two things - sweet and glamorous. Both go for simplicity, but in different ways.

floral and whimsy looks

The sweet look incorporates many floral and whimsy looks. Fabrics that seem to flow with every step you take, gives the idea of delicateness. Neutral colors of pink, beige and brown add softness to the wearer. Earthy colors makes a person feel grounded and laid-back. When wearing these tones, sometimes that pop of red or yellow turns the sweet look into boldness. For the winter time, the sweet look gives feelings of effervescence and freedom. To add to the mix, make-up should be natural to feel as if you are part of the wintery nature. For more color in makeup, it is all about eye shadows and lip color, but too much of that and it won’t look good!   When it comes to accessories, keep it simple. Try not to pair up outfits with too much chunk. The sweet look makes statements through the articles of clothing rather than through the accessories. Keep it all looking natural.

Glam fashion look

Glam fashion look

Glam, glam, glam! It’s all about shimmery, glittery and classy! The glam look is all about enhancing all your classic looks through accessories. You’re going for simple, clean and sophisticated. The staple colors would be black, white, and gray. Dark blues and reds also add to the mix. Whether it is patterned or solid color, some glitter or shimmer is a bonus. The glitter and shimmer just makes everything more festive. Make sure you at least have leggings! With leggings, you can match it with an oversized shirt, under a skirt, with a dress, anything! Be careful with leggings as well. Paired with the wrong thing and leggings just make you feel heavy and stuffy. Heels and boots of all kinds go with being glammed up! It also gives that added color to the outfit if you don’t want to look too monotone. Accessories are what makes glam be glam. Any accessory can work, but go for the metallic colors and crystal-like accessories. Handbags, clutches and purses can have some glitter and shimmer to it. For make-up, it’s all about the eyes. We want to intensify how the eyes look. Lip color should be a shade of red for some boldness. In all, for the glam look, outfits should be simple so that accessories can do the talking. It’s all about being sleek and sexy.

Two looks. Two ways to go about the winter season.\ There’s no way you can complain that there is nothing to do for the season.

Look Great in 2012

Here are some simple steps that will help anyone look good in 2012.

1. For the love of fashion, do not wear pajamas and slippers when going out. I know these are the most comfortable and cozy things to wear. But, keep the bedroom attire at home. Put some make up on, do your hair, and wear something fashionable. Not only will you feel good about yourself, but you never know who you might run into.

Messy hair

2. Wear clothes that fit! Don't try to wear clothes that are too small for your body. Women are beautiful no matter what shape or size they are. You just need to wear a style that flatters your figure. It can be a little challenging, but it is not impossible. Don't wear baggy clothes that cover up everything, this will only enhance what you are trying to hide. Compliment your good features.

Clothes that don't fit

3. Don't wear the wrong size underwear or bra. This goes hand in hand with rule number two. Many women wear bras that don't fit, cover up or enhance the shape they have. Go to a professional and get fitted for the right bra. There are many department stores that will size you for free. You will be happy you did, because since our bodies change over time we end up wearing a bra that is the wrong size. Not only will you look better, but your clothes will fit better too. If you still have a few imperfections you can't hide, try shape wear, it's a girl's best secret.

4. Don't always follow the latest fad. It will come and go quicker than you can keep up with. When the fad is over, you are stuck with an outdated wardrobe and maxed out credit cards. Dress for style and comfort that will last, no matter what the trend. Shop for clothes that make you feel and look good. Sometimes models and actresses are paid to wear certain outfits, no matter how ridiculous they look, just to get the consumer to buy a certain brand.

Runway

Purchase a few good quality pieces, like a pair of shoes a jacket or a dress, that can be mixed and matched with your wardrobe. Quality will go a long way, in a wardrobe, and be easier on your wallet. Follow these few steps, and you will look great in 2012.
