Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture. For years, the Academy Awards have been more about fashion than movies. In 2010, there was an abundance of eye-catching couture and sparkling luxury. To choose one look was nearly impossible, but I think that Zoe Saldana takes the cake. In a dazzling and daring purple piece from the house of Givenchy, Zoe shines with a perfectly sculpted updo and flawless, shimmering make-up. The strapless bust is covered in champagne-colored sparkle and leads down to an asymmetrical paper-bag waist in purple silk. This fabric ends above the knee, and the gown is finished with graduating shades of purple ruffles from light to dark, creating an ombré effect. The gown is certainly not safe, and still looks beautiful on the young starlet.
The runner up? Miley Cyrus glistens like the Oscar itself in a gold Jenny Packman gown. A shimmering, satin bustier attaches to a full, flowing skirt of pleated chiffon. Like champagne bubbles, brilliant sparkle fades elegantly into the fabric. Exquisite jewels complement the dress, as well as Miley’s perfectly manicured red nails. An edgy updo and dramatic eyes completes this perfect Oscar look.
Fashion show aside, the Academy Awards really are about film. This being said, one beauty in particular epitomized Old Hollywood glamour. Kate Winslet looked absolutely ravishing in a simple, yet breathtaking gown from Yves Saint Laurent. The strapless bodice was structured with curved seams at the hip, leading down to a full-length skirt with a front slit. Stunning Tiffany jewels brighten the soft pewter gown while long hair in a subtle, vintage wave highlights her natural beauty.
