Taking the Plunge: Ocean-Inspired Outfits
When it comes to fashion, insight can come from anywhere. For instance, any budding designer can draw inspiration from the different hues of the sea, or the way the waves crash on the shore, or perhaps the many creatures living in its depths – better yet, all of the above. Spring 2010 is fashion’s tribute to all things ocean-related, from color selections to materials.
Many designers banked on the freshness of spring as being represented by the coolness of the ocean, with recent trends showing cool blue color palettes, beach-inspired accessories, wavy patterns and lines, and swimwear masquerading as casual wear (or the other way around). In spring, ideas really do spring forth and the sky – er, the bottom of the ocean, at least – is the limit.
Alexander McQueen’s RTW collection for spring this year positively glowed a bright blue shade. Despite the reptilian and graphic theme of McQueen’s new line, his chosen hues paid their respects to the sea:

Some of McQueen’s ensembles more than follow the ocean’s colors; their very shape and texture were reminiscent of sea foam and splashing waves:

Anna Sui also chose blue as one of her favorite colors for her spring line. In fact, she chose blue not only for the clothes, but also for bags and shoes.

Badgley Mischka is a true-blue fan of the beach, at least for this season’s collection. Her swimwear neck pieces remained loyal to the shore, reminding you of the many treasures you yourself might find on the beach.

For spring, Blumarine showcased tie-dyed outfits suggestive of sun and shore, with yellow rays blending into shades of azure:

Take inspiration from Blumarine’s Spring 2010 RTW by pairing your resort-ready outfits with hot tints like orange and yellow. The clash of color makes any blue look even bluer:

Getting ready for a beach party? Keep it versatile; invest in attires that are great for either fun in the sun or cocktails at night, such as some of Blumarine’s dresses for spring:

Giorgio Armani is giving the ocean look a suave makeover. Armani designed blued out suits and blouse-skirt ensembles, keeping the mood ocean-cool while also geared up for the city.

If you want a steelier take of this season’s spring inspirations, pair your cobalt dress with a leather jacket to toughen up your garb, as seen in Stella McCartney’s runway.

Longchamp Le Pliage: Here to Stay?
While this won't come as a surprised to college girls, women who have spent time traveling abroad in Europe, and women in various American cities, Longchamp Le Pliage tote bags are one of the hottest, reasonably priced bags to be seen in right now. While this trend has been around long enough that it can barely even be called a "trend" anymore, it recently occurred to me that many women have seen this bags and have no idea what they are or why they're so popular. Recently, my mother's medium-sized tote, seen below, was passed around a Starbucks by women who wanted to know where to purchase the popular bag. All of the woman who participated in this questioning had seen the bag carried in a variety of places, but had never thought to ask who designed it or why it was so popular.

As the Le Pliage is made out of a sturdy canvas, with leather handles, it is waterproof and lightweight, making it perfect for college students, women who walk a lot due to living in large cities, and for women who need to carry a lot without hurting their backs. Women in Paris tote these bags around in all sizes and styles. It comes in a variety of seasonal colors and in a number of sizes, all with brown leather handles. The exception to this rule is the "Les Planetes" line, which features handles in a leather and color that match the canvas of the bag's body. For example, a black Les Planetes bag features black handles, while a green one features deep green crocodile leather handles.
In addition to being lightweight and waterproof, these bags are as roomy as you'd like, and fold up into a small, flat rectangle, making them easy to pack and store.
The prices range from $100 to $150, depending on where you purchase it and which style you purchase. An official Longchamp store, or a department store such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, or Neiman Marcus is a safe bet when you decide to purchase one of these bags.
